1 Peter 4:12-13 The Message (MSG)
“And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?” – Luke 14:27-28 (NLT)
“Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” – 1 John 2:6 (NLT)
“So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.” – 1 Peter 4:19 (NLT)
Charles Spurgeon said: “They who dive in the sea of affliction bring up rare pearls.” This quote is a great way to summarize the 4 verses we just read and to connect them to our passage today. By committing to follow Jesus, we are committing to live like He lived. His eternal love for us is happening now, but we need to hold firm to it because there are many earthly trials, tribulation, persecution, and crucifixion that want to take it from us. It’s during these times of suffering that God is refining us. Remember, it’s the best time to lean into our relationship with Christ. We need to ask for Him to strengthen our relationship with Him and to grow our faith. Here’s a great reminder that glory with Christ is around the corner:
12-13 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner. – 1 Peter 4:12-13 (MSG)
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for upholding me during difficult times and for never failing me. Lord, please fill me with Your strength, guide me with Your wisdom, surround me with Your peace, and allow me to feel Your love with every breath I take today. I ask all of this in your Holy Name, Jesus. Amen!
