Lenten Daily Devotional from Pastor Mary 3-6-20

Psalm 121:1-4 (NLT)

God Protects Us

I look up to the mountains—

    does my help come from there?

My help comes from the Lord,

    who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble;

    the one who watches over you will not slumber.

Indeed, he who watches over Israel

    never slumbers or sleeps.

Pause in his presence

Lenten Reflection:  God protects us because he loves us.  As the psalmist reminds us today, we do not need to be in Jerusalem or in the Temple in order to be protected by God.  This worshiper knew his help did not come from either of those external locations.  Rather, his help would come from Almighty God who chose him.  The Lord continually watches over his own and protects us as we stand in Christ.  We stand in faith, grace, courage, strength, liberty, unity, and the gospel because we stand in the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for the constant protection you provide me. You watch over me and help me to stand in your power.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
