Daily Devotional from Curtis Tumicki 05-13-23

Last week, I spoke about about evangelism and how it is one of those things that we think about in church but we don’t really act on it.  In other words, it is something that we say and not do.  Unfortunately, this is the lifestyle that people tend to live by.  We say one thing but we do the opposite.  This should not be the case when it comes to evangelism.  In both Matthew 28:19 and Mark 16:15, Jesus tells us to not only go and make disciples of all nations, but we also need to share the gospel to all creation.  In Matthew 28:19, it speaks about baptizing people into the name of Jesus.  When you see the word “into” followed by “the name,” that means being in the possession.  In this case when you see the phrase, “into the name of Jesus,” it is talking about being in the possession of Christ.  When it comes to evangelism and Kingdom work, it requires people.  In order for the harvest to produce and grow, it requires farmers to plant the seeds.  As mentioned before last week, it is the church’s responsibility for those seeds to be planted.  We, ourselves, cannot physically save people.  Once the gospel seed is planted, then it is the work of the Holy Spirit to let the seed grow.  In 1 Corinthians 3:6-8it says “6. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.  7. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering.  What’s important is that God make the seed grow.  8. The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose.  And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.”

Challenge

Think about people who you know and pray for them.  Reach out to them and let them know that you are thinking about them.  I can tell you that it will make their day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for Your continuous strength and wisdom as we continue to do the things that You have called us to.  As we grow Your Kingdom, let us not be ashamed of it.  Instead, let us embrace it and let Your word shine before others so that the darkness will flee and Your light will shine through.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
