Psalm 66:1-5 New Living Translation (NLT)
How often do you find yourself praising the Lord? Take a minute and think about your week so far… If you had to divide your week into how much of it has been spent in praise to the Lord, versus how much of it has been spent asking of the Lord, where would you be? I’m sure the greater percentage for many has been spent asking of the Lord.
In our passage today, we are reminded of 4 ways to joyfully praise our God. Let’s work on incorporating as many of these ways into the rest of our week as possible:
1. Shout – each of us is uniquely created and because of that we should want to “shout joyful praises to God”.
2. Sing – another way we can praise the Lord is through song. Eventually, people from all over the word, time, and space will join in singing praises to God.
3. Say – we can praise the Lord through verbal communication. When we talk to one another about what God has done for us, we are praising Him.
4. See – as we begin to verbally communicate in praise, we also start to see how great God is in our lives. When we acknowledge that we see Him, we are praising Him.
Psalm 66:1-5
For the choir director: A song. A psalm.
1 Shout joyful praises to God, all the earth!
2 Sing about the glory of his name!
Tell the world how glorious he is.
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
Your enemies cringe before your mighty power.
4 Everything on earth will worship you;
they will sing your praises,
shouting your name in glorious songs.” Interlude
5 Come and see what our God has done,
what awesome miracles he performs for people!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for today. Please help me to let down my guard so that I can outwardly be a person who praises you by shouting and singing. Lord, provide me with opportunities where I can praise you in conversation and get excited to show others what you’ve done in my life. I ask all of this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen.
