Daily Devotional from Pastor Mary 09-12-25

I have had very little time to read or watch the news the past few days, but what I did see late Wednesday evening was heart-wrenching; so disturbingly evil. Of course I am referring to the murder of Charlie Kirk.  Sin [rebellion against God who is Love)] can make human beings so hateful; so condescending and threatened by anything that challenges the idols people want to worship. When the Voice of Truth is released through a willing host, the enemy gets busy trying to silence it.  I saw this quote yesterday and it screamed truth to me, “People don’t really want your opinion; they want their opinion coming out of your mouth.” The only opinion, judgment and Truth that actually matters is God’s—His standard.

Wednesday in our Bible Study of Matthew 13, we noted how the soil of human hearts [responses to God’s message] can be very different from person to person and the same day we witness the Truth.  Two hearts [soil] and two responses to the authority of Almighty God.  Whether or not a person realizes murder is against the commands of God, everyone knows murder is against the law of this nation.

So, ignorance is not a reason for killing another person.  Rather, it’s sin in the minds of those who refuse to listen to the Truth and be healed by God’s love:

“For the hearts of these people are hardened,
    and their ears cannot hear,
and they have closed their eyes—
    so their eyes cannot see,
and their ears cannot hear,
    and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
and let me heal them” (Mat 13:15).

Prayer:  Lord, we pray for our hearts, as well as the hearts of human beings around the globe to be softened and welcoming to the truth of your love found only in Jesus the Christ. We pray for all of Charlie’s family, as well as his inner circle of friends.  Cover them with peace and be the Comforter they all need.  Send the refreshment of the Spirit to be their strength in this challenging time.  Call your children to be blessings to this family; to spill your healing love over them. Have mercy on the soul of the murderer. Bring justice, Lord, and turn what the enemy meant for harm and use it for good. We cast our eyes upon you, Lord.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
