Daily Reading 10-24-16
1 Peter 5:5-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
Every day most of us dress ourselves and go out into the world. Depending upon where we go, our physical clothing changes. Did you know there is some spiritual clothing that is always appropriate and pleases God? In fact, this spiritual clothing is perfect for wherever we go. What is the appropriate spiritual clothing that is attractive to God? Humility.
5 “Dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen.
Prayer: Father, humility is important for your children, so help me to dress in it every day. I will trust you to bring good things into my life. As well, I will extend mercy to others because I don’t know where he or she may find themselves physically, emotionally or spiritually. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
