Quest for Hope

Armed with Agreement 3-5-16

Ephesians 6:10-18

Yesterday, we read about how the people of Light shine in a world that prefers darkness. Christ’s followers demonstrate a different way to live; a way that pleases God.  Today, we will look at Paul’s advice about putting on spiritual armor, because if we are determined to live in agreement with God we are going to encounter a battle for allegiance.

Ephesians 5:8-17

Yesterday, we read about how the Spirit who occupies us wants to renew our thoughts and attitudes about our lives.  Today, we will continue our quest for hope as we read further in Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus (Turkey—Aegean region) written around AD 62.  Is it relevant, today?

Occupied 3-3-16

Ephesians 4:22-32

Last night, we had a great discussion about what makes a life example of saving grace; grace saves us from death into life. Grace begins the journey, grace ends the journey, and grace occupies everything in-between. Salvation is entirely something that only God can do in a heart. We should never be surprised who makes the journey with Jesus, nor when they choose to make it. Anyone who desires God can know Him by grace; it is never too late. Today, we will continue our quest for hope in the book of Ephesians as we remember to leave no room for the devil; it is “heart housecleaning time!” Let’s choose to start the process of throwing out the stuff occupying space that should not be a part of our life in Christ.

Belonging to the Son 3-1-16

Ephesians 1:3-10

Yesterday, we explored the importance of placing our lives honestly before God; we can know the joy of forgiveness only when we are honest with Him.  Today, we will press in to understand the spiritual blessings (our inheritance) when we belong to the Son.  We must value these things that are passed down from heaven.

Disciplined by God 2-29-16

Psalm 32:1-6a, 8-10

On Saturday, we looked at sin and how it is a slavery for our souls; a slavery God never wanted for us.  We should be angry at the sin that seeks to rob us in our relationship with God.  Today, we will look at a psalm (a song) written by King David.  The King had committed adultery and had tried to hide his sin from God.  David found that when he finally confessed he had sinned against God’s way of love, He was actually liberated and found this sweet place of surrender; his heart began to sing, again.

Increasing Grace 2-27-16

Romans 6:1-2, 5-7, 11-14

Yesterday, we were filled with hope as we thought about what it means to be a friend of God; a gift of Grace in spite of our sin.  We also realized being a “friend” means we will be called upon to lay our lives down for the cause of loving God and others.  God is sacrificial love; agape.  Today, we are on a quest of hope as we pursue God’s increasing grace.

Lay It Down 2-26-16

Romans 5:1-2, 6-10

Yesterday, we recognized the depth to which God desires to stretch our faith; like Abraham we must believe in His promises and take God at His Word.  Today in our quest for hope, we will see the extent to which Christ’s sacrifice for our sins has taken us in our relationship with God. Because of Christ, not only are we restored in relationship with the Father, but we are actually imparted the spiritual life of Christ within our physical bodies through the Spirit, so we can bring glory to God who is Love.

Romans 4:18-25

Yesterday in our quest for hope, we looked at the true Gift from God called salvation.  Today, we will continue with the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans when he used father Abraham as an example of growing hope and faith.  This faith Abraham extends to believe God’s promise counts him righteous with God.  Here’s the believer’s story:

An Echo 2-24-16

Romans 3:21-26

Yesterday, we read about how creation magnifies the presence of Creator God.  That creation includes every human being; we are God’s handiwork created to love Him and take care of His creation.  Tonight, we will read about God’s presentation of Jesus as the sacrifice for our sin and our ability to now be an echo of his likeness.
