Colossians 2:6-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
According to our Scripture passage today, every time we follow Christ beyond the cross into “eternal living” our faith in Christ is grown and our trust expanded. It is difficult to take those steps to follow Christ, because all of our emotions which are motivated many times by fear, come to make us feel the only safe place is what “feels” good to our flesh. But what if our finest blessings and experiences lie beyond the fears that seek to stop us? What if God is asking us to live beyond the fears in order to root our faith more fully in the Truth of who we really are now in Christ?
We must get to the point where we wisely discern that God is Agape and Wisdom and the very things we have known in our human comfort zones is not necessary the Truth. God is always wanting to give His children more glimpses of pure Truth; however, it takes obedience to follow and a heart that is hungry to discover the Truth about ourselves. Do you think if we really believed God has only Good and Holy things for us that make us more authentic to who he created us to be, that we would stop fighting against where he wants to lead us? How are we ever going to know how much work Christ has done inwardly in our lives until he releases it and reveals it outwardly as we follow? We must live “on earth as it is in heaven.” Blessings for your weekend in Christ!
Colossians 2:6-15 Freedom from Rules and New Life in Christ
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union (connection) with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed[d] the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for helping me see beyond this temporal world and guiding my life along the path of eternal living. You are the Giver and I am going to respond to your generosity with thanksgiving. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
