Psalm 37 New Living Translation
Although it may look like the wicked are prospering, they cannot sustain it because they do not have a right relationship with God. The wicked are more interested in being their own god; living by their own rules and taking care of themselves. The righteous do have a right relationship with God; they trust and obey the Savior. Therefore, spending time in prayer asking for God’s help is wisdom that brings provision.
In our passage today, we find some steps for the righteous to enjoy the Lord. The psalmist shares one “don’t” and four “do’s.” The one “don’t” is don’t worry. The three “do’s” are trust in the Lord, delight the Lord, and commit everything to the Lord. Your help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Ps 121:2). The Lord wants to help you with every struggle, so “do” your part and God will be there for you.
Psalm 37 A psalm of David.
1
Don’t worry about the wicked
or envy those who do wrong.
2
For like grass, they soon fade away.
Like spring flowers, they soon wither.
3
Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
4
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
5
Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the help you have promised to bring my life. I will press in and enjoy you knowing you have everything in order. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
