Psalm 5:8-10 Living Bible (TLB)

We must never forget God created and placed humans in charge of His world and filled them with Truth. When sin entered the environment that God originally made holy–free from death and full of glory–everything changed. That is why it is so important for the Word of God to be preached and shared, so people will hear the Truth and turn from the temptation of evil; rebellion and sin against God and others.

Evil hates the work of Christ–the work to restore relationship with God and with people–evil tries to stop Christ’s work. People are killed and persecuted because they bear the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus said it would happen. We have witnessed it in the recent tragedy in Texas. We must never allow evil to conquer our faith in God’s goodness. Evil speaks lies.

In our short passage today, we will continue our reading from Psalm 5:8-10

8 Lord, lead me as you promised me you would; otherwise my enemies will conquer me. Tell me clearly what to do, which way to turn. 9. For they cannot speak one truthful word. Their hearts are filled to the brim with wickedness. Their suggestions are full of the stench of sin and death. Their tongues are filled with flatteries to gain their wicked ends. 10 O God, hold them responsible. Catch them in their own traps; let them fall beneath the weight of their own transgressions, for they rebel against you.

Prayer: Lord, I am reminded that when things grow dark my faith must press through for the Light of Truth. Reveal your goodness in the midst of this rebellious act of evil in our country; sin against you and your children. Give me eyes to see the words that heal. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
