Psalm 56:8-13 The Message
I am not sure why this is the case, but for many who seek God, we seem to first make a journey to see if God is trustworthy with our hearts. Fear tries to come in and halt our devotion and our trust, but if we stay the course we begin to look over our lives and realize that God has always been on our side working all things for our good. When we finally trust God with all our hearts, we can take a deep breath and stroll through life with him knowing it is going to be all right. Not everything in life will be pleasant or even welcomed, but we are making the journey with God so our hearts can be at leisure or rest. It’s a picture of the Sabbath life.
David understood trusting God was THE essential step. Being fearful of anything this world has to offer is ridiculous, because God has us covered. So, no more tossing and turning; instead walk in the sunlit fields of life with Father God.
Psalm 56:8-13
8
You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn
through the sleepless nights,
Each tear entered in your ledger,
each ache written in your book.
9
If my enemies run away,
turn tail when I yell at them,
Then I’ll know
that God is on my side.
10-11
I’m proud to praise God,
proud to praise God.
Fearless now, I trust in God;
what can mere mortals do to me?
12-13
God, you did everything you promised,
and I’m thanking you with all my heart.
You pulled me from the brink of death,
my feet from the cliff-edge of doom.
Now I stroll at leisure with God
in the sunlit fields of life.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for bringing me this far in your love. I want to stroll at leisure with you for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
