Psalm 93 New Living Translation (NLT)
During my quiet times, I sometimes sit looking out over the beauty of creation and allow my thoughts to wander in the Love of God. It is a special time where I give myself permission to let go of thoughts of pressing duties or expectations and I just enjoy the freedom to daydream about life. If you know me at all, you realize this place of wandering is an exercise in discipline because I function by a to-do list and a schedule of order most of the time because the many responsibilities I carry require it. These quiet moments are gifts for Mary, because they allow me to focus on things beyond my influence and control; they allow me to remember Who is actually in control.
The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty.
Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength.
The world stands firm
and cannot be shaken.
Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial.
You yourself are from the everlasting past.
The floods have risen up, O Lord.
The floods have roared like thunder;
the floods have lifted their pounding waves.
But mightier than the violent raging of the seas,
mightier than the breakers on the shore—
the Lord above is mightier than these!
Your royal laws cannot be changed.
Your reign, O Lord, is holy forever and ever.
Our Scripture reading today is refreshment for me; in my wandering thoughts I gain a vision of majestic or supreme power (v.1). The Lord, Christ the Anointed One, is the Ruler of the universe. Therefore, nothing in this world has been, is, or will ever be beyond His reach and care. This understanding helps me to “rest” in His Love and “trust” in His care for me, because I have made a connection.
The beauty of creation was given as a gift from the Lord, because it was a way of revealing His love for humanity. I have received many beautiful cards with pictures and images through the years, but nothing compares with the “creation cards” the Lord sends me when I am quiet and allow myself to take things in. Find your quiet time, today, take in the beauty of creation, and allow your thoughts to wander towards the Love and care of God for you.
Prayer: Lord, I see You. I understand Your Love and care through the work of Your hands. Your hands stretched out in the midst of darkness, created beauty, and will forever rule the universe; a creation touched by Your glory. Your hands stretched out on a cross, saved me from my own darkness, and will forever care for me as You make me a creature touched by Your glory. Thank You! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
