Psalm 17:15
As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.

Yesterday we looked at the first verse of Psalm 17, and today we are looking at the last verse. To awake in God’s likeness, would mean that King David was praying about what heaven is like after he leaves the earthly realm, and he describes seeing God. This verse tells me two things about King David: 1. he looked forward to eternity in the heavenly realm and 2. he longed to be satisfied just by being in the presence of the Almighty and nothing else.

Isn’t it awesome to know that one day, in the heavenly realm, you and I will see God face-to-face? Well, let’s be honest, you and I will probably be on our knees and weeping tears of pure joy. Nevertheless, we will see Him, and we won’t need anything else, only Him. We know that we can’t see God here in the earthly realm, as no man, on earth, has ever seen Him except for Jesus (John 1:3). So, in the meantime, we must be living for eternity with God now.

Think about yesterday, if yesterday was your last day on this earth, do you believe you accomplished in that 24 hours what God had planned for you? If you had met up with Jesus, face-to-face, do you think He would have approved of the things you said and/or did yesterday? If the answer is no, well, it’s a good thing you have today. We must be in alignment with eternity, by eternal living now, because remember, we are citizens of heaven (Phil 3:20) and we are called to act accordingly.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live for eternity today, tomorrow, and every day that you have me on this earth. I long to be satisfied by You alone. Please forgive me when I put people, tasks, or things ahead of You. You are my first love, and I want my words and actions to be pleasing to You. Jesus, I pray a special blessing over Pastor Mary and her family. Be with them as they are away from home. Please provide Your comfort, strength, and peace. In Your Precious Name, Jesus. Amen.

Psalm 17:1
I am pleading for your help, O Lord; for I have been honest and have done what is right, and you must listen to my earnest cry!

Do you believe in the power of prayer? Psalm 17 is a prayer written by King David. David was the King of Israel and a man after God’s own heart. He trusted God with everything. David believed that the Word of God was the Living Truth; and so, this prayer was a cry to the Lord that came from the depths of David’s heart. It’s obvious that David’s heart belonged fully to God.

Do you pray like King David? I must be completely honest with you, as a child, teenager, and young adult my prayer time seemed almost scripted. It was as if I were marking off checkboxes of things I had to say and then I could move on or go to sleep. Then there was a period within my adulthood that I completely walked away from my faith. I didn’t pray at all during that time because I was angry with God that He didn’t answer one of my prayers during a very difficult time. Looking back, I can say that my heart didn’t belong to God (like King David), I didn’t put God first, and if I’m being completely transparent, I didn’t have a relationship with Christ. So, how does “that person” end up writing today’s devotion? Well, I allowed Jesus into my heart and ever since that moment I have been working on our relationship and allowing Him to make necessary changes in my life. Much like any other relationship, the work never stops if you want to see things grow. The only difference from every other relationship, is that this one needs to come first to improve all the other relationships. In my relationship with Jesus I focus on putting in the time to learn about Him (reading the Bible) and I work on being a good communicator (by praying). I now realize that Jesus hears every spoken and unspoken prayer that you and I have. He hears our cries, our praises, our pleas, our uncertainties, our intercessions, He hears when we claim His Blood on bended knee just as He knows our smallest quick prayer whispered in our hearts. I now know that Jesus hears the scripted prayers, and He loves them as much as He loves all prayers and each of us. He most definitely hears the prayers that don’t end up turning out the way we had hoped, and in those moments, He is holding us, so we need to turn and hold Him back and allow Him to carry us through those difficult moments. We must NEVER let go of Jesus!

The next time you pray, please remember that you are a citizen of heaven (Phil 3:20), as Peter mentioned during yesterday’s sermon, and you are communicating with your 1st and eternal love.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for transforming my heart. I wish to please You with my life. Help to guide me on the path You have for me, each day, and continue to allow me to see how You are growing me into your likeness. Thank You for hearing my prayers. In Your Name, Jesus. Amen

2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 TPT
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already active, but the one who prevails will do so until he is separated from out of the midst. 8 Then the “outlaw” will be openly revealed, and the Lord will overthrow him by the breath of his mouth and bring him to an end by the dazzling manifestation of his presence.

9 The presence of the “outlaw” is apparent by the activity of Satan, who uses all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs, spurious wonders, 10 and every form of evil deception in order to deceive those who are perishing because they rejected the love of the truth that would lead them to being saved. 11 Because of this, God sends them a powerful delusion [working of error] that leads them to believe what is false. 12 So then all who found their pleasure in unrighteousness and did not believe the truth will be judged.

Lawlessness is a hidden underlying force in human beings—an evil spirit from which sin and corruption emanates. God put into place the spiritual, moral, and governmental laws in order to set a standard, as well as hold back the expression of evil and corruption—lawlessness. Those who love God love his law and live according to his standard or Word. So, lawlessness has always been and remains associated with choosing a life in rebellion to God’s established laws and authority (Romans 13).

We are seeing the work of lawlessness in our country. The choice to riot, loot, destroy the property of others, as well as demonize and demoralize the police is all instigated by the spirit of lawlessness. Now, let’s take this a bit further; one day the spirit of lawlessness will culminate in one human being with the purpose of taking over the world; this being will try to overthrow Almighty God. Scripture calls this human being filled with a lawless spirit the “outlaw” or the Antichrist—evil incarnate. So, allowing a spirit of lawlessness to permeate this country is just setting the stage for more to come. Lawlessness is never from God and those who allow it are equally lawless and in rebellion against God’s Word. Hope is ours because the end of the story has already been written and those who read it know the Lord of lords and the King of kings takes down the Antichrist with the Word and judges the world with righteousness. Wake up to the Holy Spirit and give no room to lawlessness.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the desire you have placed within me to follow the Spirit who helps me live according to your standard and Word. Although I fail every day and need your forgiveness, I praise you for helping me grow and learn. The very fact that acts of lawlessness in our world grieves my spirit tells me I am on the right path. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ephesians 5:1-6 NLT

Living in the Light
5 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

6 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.

Believers are to imitate God! Wow! That is an overwhelming thought isn’t it? The Apostle Paul starts by sharing some specific areas that we might better imitate God with our lives by paying attention to: any sexual immorality, a greedy love for money, and improper language flowing from our mouths that does not reflect God’s gracious presence in us. This is how we love God; we imitate him. The world tempts us to fulfill our flesh; to be slaves to the demands of our desires. But, what if life is really more about fulfilling God’s plan for the world; and our lives being a pleasing aroma to him because we are willing to sacrifice what we desire for what God requires? I believe this as Truth and, in Christ, becomes every believer’s commission. May we never make life about us; instead, may we make life about the Life Giver and worship him with every aspect of our lives.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your teaching and helping me follow your example. I have a long way to go, but each day I look forward to emulating you better. Holy Spirit, take charge and lead the way. I pray for our American family along the Gulf coast that have suffered from hurricane Laura. Help us to come together as a country to be the hands and hearts they need for restoration. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalm 18:1-3 TPT
I Love You, Lord
Praises sung to the Lord by King David

Lord, I passionately love you and I’m bonded to you,[I want to hug you]
for now you’ve become my power!

You’re as real to me as bedrock beneath my feet,
like a castle on a cliff, my forever firm fortress,
my mountain of hiding, my pathway of escape,
my tower of rescue where none can reach me.
My secret strength and shield around me,
you are salvation’s ray of brightness shining on the hillside,
always the champion of my cause.

All I need to do is to call to you,
singing to you, the praiseworthy God.
When I do, I’m safe and sound in you.

As I was reading our passage for today, I smiled because so may times I have asked God to give those I pray for a spiritual hug; an awareness of his presence with them to bring comfort and assurance. But, today, I am filled with joy as I call upon the Lord and tell him how much I love him; I want to give the Lord a spiritual hug! How do we hug God and thank him for his goodness? I believe it is connected with how we praise him and willingly allow the Spirit to guide our lives into abundance. Please give God a hug, today. It will be good for both of you!

Prayer: I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you; oh my soul rejoice. Take joy my King in what you hear; may it be a sweet sweet sound in your ear! I’m reaching to give you a spiritual hug, Lord. Thank you for your goodness! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Romans 11:33-36
33 Who could ever wrap their minds around the riches of God, the depth of his wisdom, and the marvel of his perfect knowledge? Who could ever explain the wonder of his decisions [judgments] or search out the mysterious way he carries out his plans?
34
For who has discovered how the Lord thinks
or is wise enough to be the one
to advise him in his plans?
35 Or:
“Who has ever first given something to God
that obligates God to owe him something in return?”
36 And because God is the source and sustainer of everything, everything finds fulfillment in him. May all praise and honor be given to him forever! Amen!

Unless the Spirit of God enters us and we allow the pure mind of God to begin to inhabit our lifestyles, we can only pretend to be good. Without renewed minds, we are self-serving and will always raise our wills above God’s will and plan for our lives. As believers in Christ and the work of grace, we are learning to listen to the Spirit and be led in the ways of the Kingdom of God. We are citizens of heaven and we live to emulate our role model the King of Glory—Jesus. Many people may be tempted to think God is not involved in the things of humanity like government and world affairs, but Scripture teaches God is the sustainer of all things, so we cannot find the fulfillment of good and wholeness apart from him. Never forget that Father is God, Jesus is God, and the Spirit is God and as we listen and obey the testimony or Word of God we enjoy fellowship with the wholeness of Creator. Finding ourselves in this listening and obeying place brings true fulfillment for our lives which pleases God who created us in his image. May we repent for trying to leave God out of “all” things and turn to bring the Father, Son, and the Spirit into our lives to form a holy lifestyle. And, may we pray for our government leaders to repent, turn, and call upon the Godhead for the wisdom and knowledge to redeem and restore our land in Jesus’ name. May God convict those who actually try to remove him and his authority from this country—the United States of America—one nation under God.

Prayer: Creator and Lord of all, please help me to possess the fulness of grace you have provided. I know my life requires your wisdom, decisions, and plans. Please continue to sustain me and cause me to walk in the fullness of your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Romans 2:1-3
God Judges Sin
2 No matter who you are, before you judge the wickedness of others, you had better remember this: you are also without excuse, for you too are guilty of the same kind of things! When you judge others, and then do the same things they do, you condemn yourself. 2 We know that God’s judgment falls upon those who practice these things. God is always right, because he has all the facts. 3 And no matter who you think you are, when you judge others who do these things and then do the same things yourself, what makes you think that you will escape God’s judgment?

Why do you suppose it is easier to see the sins of others and condemn them, but struggle to see the sin hiding in our own hearts? We may even struggle with the same sin that we judge in others, but maybe we are just more cleaver about hiding it while we try to live in denial. If we work at it we may even be able to make our sin seem more socially acceptable than the sin of others, but that will never make it right before God. Sin is sin. The Word reveals sin and the Spirit convicts believers of it. And just to be clear, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and Jesus Christ our standard for living (Ro 3:23). As Christians, we must be very careful about how we talk about others, because God has extended each one of us mercy and grace, and we must turn to give the same to others. This does not mean we accept sin nor refrain from identifying it. However, as believers, we know apart from the forgiveness of God we would all be hell-bound. So, instead of judging others we bathe our words with mercy and strive to speak the Truth in love. Do you need to give your words a bath in mercy before you let them cross your lips?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for this passage from the Apostle Paul that reminds me of just how much you have forgiven me over my lifetime and how my job is to pray for those who seem to struggle with similar sins rather than judge them. Please help me bathe my words with mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Proverbs 14:34 AMP
Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.

Righteousness is an attribute that belongs to God and, because of his great Love for his human creation, God has offered this holy life to us as a gift. Humanity apart from a relationship with God is unrighteous and due to sin lives rebellious to the Word. The righteousness of God is imparted to us when we accept and believe in the Son of God—Jesus the Messiah—for salvation from sin. People tend to think righteousness is connected to doing what “feels right” to each person, but that is wrong thinking according to the Word. If living according to how we feel in our hearts was righteousness, right and wrong would actually be relative to each person. Therefore, God proclaims his righteousness is based on his terms and that is the righteousness that leads to life with him. If this nation—the United States of America—wants to experience the blessing of God rather than the judgment of God, then we need to honor his authority to set the boundaries of righteousness and live in harmony with his Word. Obedience and blessing go together. May believers across this nation start praying and interceding for an awakening of every soul to the spiritual reality of Almighty God.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your righteous standard revealed in your Word. I pray for this same standard to be raised up in this nation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (Voice)
9-10 Do you need reminding that the unjust have no share in the blessings of the kingdom of God? Do not be misled. A lot of people stand to inherit nothing of God’s coming kingdom, including those whose lives are defined by sexual immorality, idolatry, adultery, sexual deviancy, theft, greed, drunkenness, slander, and swindling. 11 Some of you used to live in these ways, but you are different now; you have been washed clean, set apart, restored, and set on the right path in the name of the Lord Jesus, the Anointed, by the Spirit of our living God.

Jesus makes a tremendous difference in our lives, because he is the LIFE we were always created to live and his righteous path is the way to the Kingdom. In our passage today, the Apostle Paul reminds us as believers we are to live differently in Christ than how the world lives. We are in the world and surrounded by diverse cultural ideologies that demand our allegiance, but we are commanded to actually live obedient to God’s righteous standards for his Kingdom people. Once we lived being dominated by our “feelings” or based upon our personal “perspectives” or “desires.” But, that is no longer how we navigate life as disciples of Christ. Jesus reveals we are to live by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Mat 4:4). The things we enjoyed when we were living in rebellion against God’s Word now grieve our spirits. We see life as the breath of Creator God and each day as a way to live for his glory; we are different now, because Jesus has set us on the right path.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for changing how I live my life; for helping me hunger for the blessed life found only in your Kingdom. Even though the powers of this world press a cultural agenda that accepts the very things your Word identifies as the work of evil, may I remain faithful to live for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Matthew 8:5-13 TPT
Jesus Heals the Son of a Roman Officer
5 When Jesus entered the village of Capernaum, a captain in the Roman army approached him, asking for a miracle. 6 “Lord,” he said, “I have a son [servant] who is lying in my home, paralyzed and suffering terribly.”
7 Jesus responded, “I will go with you and heal him.”

8–9 But the Roman officer interjected, “Lord, who am I to have you come into my house? I understand your authority, for I too am a man who walks under authority and have authority over soldiers who serve under me. I can tell one to go and he’ll go, and another to come and he’ll come. I order my servants and they’ll do whatever I ask. So I know that all you need to do is to stand here and command healing over my son and he will be instantly healed.”

10 Jesus was astonished when he heard this and said to those who were following him, “He has greater faith than anyone I’ve encountered in Israel! 11 Listen to what I am about to tell you. Multitudes of non-Jewish people will stream from the east and the west, to enter into the banqueting feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the heavenly kingdom. 12 But many Israelites, born to be heirs of the kingdom, will be turned away and banished into the darkness where there will be bitter weeping and unbearable anguish.”

13 Then Jesus turned to the Roman officer and said, “Go home. All that you have believed for will be done for you!” And his son was healed at that very moment.

This is one of my favorite lessons in New Testament scripture, because it reminds me of the attitude we must “put on” to understand grace and the power of the Anointed One. Religious piety or practice is no substitute for faith which is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. Faith is about placing our trust and confidence in God’s love for us and leaning upon the Word of God as Truth. The captain of the Roman army demonstrated what was necessary; his faith astonished Jesus and brought the healing he desired. You and I must demonstrate our faith in Christ’s authority as the Anointed One, as well.

Prayer: Lord, each time I pray help me to better understand your authority and the work of faith that manifests healing miracles. We need so many miracles in our world right now. Set your children to pray in faith! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
